A Stitcher's Stitchings

Oh, for the love of cross stitching….and a few ramblings

7 months later…. June 26, 2013

I can’t believe that I haven’t been on in more than half a year!! I’m so sorry I haven’t been posting but things got hectic and I had to put my blog and my stitching on a temporary slow mode/hold. I’ve done quite a bit in the last few months and I’m hoping to get back into my stitching and blogging!! I’ve missed all of you and have quite a few updates to throw on here.

Here we go:

  • I completed my geisha in time for Christmas and got it framed. It looked crooked to me so after a while I just had to throw my hands up and gift it as it was, crooked an all.
  • I have another stitching completed and will post a picture of it soon
  • I’m working on 2 other stitchings and I’m hoping I’ll be able to finish at least one by mid-July so I can start on my next project
  • I am anxiously wanting to start a Sleeping Beauty project

In non-stitching news:

  • I completed college and received my Bachelor’s as well as walked the stage
  • I’m waiting for Bug to start school before I find a job
  • Bug played soccer for a season!! Pictures to come later
  • Hubby got me a new car for graduating and I LOVE it!!
  • I’m trying to start working out again so you may hear some gripes from me about that from time to time
  • We moved Christmastime and now have a little fenced in backyard (not that we can go outside cause it’s sooooo hot here!!)

I have missed everyone and my stitching so I’m crossing my fingers that I can get back into it!! This blog is going to be post heavy for the next couple of days so I can give everyone a bit of the past few months of my life.

Whip those stitches!!

Before I get to my update this week, I want to share something with you that hubby and I got a couple of days ago….our early Christmas presents to each other.

image

We both got the new Samsung GS3’s!! It was a very much anticipated upgrade for us so I’m so happy we finally got them. I’m bringing them up also because that’s what I’m posting this post from this week and depending on how it goes, maybe from here on out.

But now for my update….

image

I’m working mostly on the greens right now and the way it’s starting to look more shaded and the folds are more apparent is really making me happy. I’m working on the 3rd green right now and then will move on to the pinks.

Here is how it looks with everything showing on the scroll frame….

image

I’m still keeping my fingers crossed that I can get it done and the little pig ones completed by Christmas. We shall see!!

And now….a random picture from my Jr. High graduation

image

I’m the one in then blue dress. I wore little kitten heels to walk the stage but once we got to the dance afterwards those puppies got flung into the corner. Ahhh the good ole days.  🙂

I have officially started the second half of the pattern, earlier today that is. I didn’t have much time between finishing the outlining and doing a bit else so all of the green in the second half is what was done today.

First for the outlining. Here are some before and afters of the butterfly outlining:

I definitely think that the outlining gives the pattern so much more oomph. Before all you could see was some pink squares and maybe butterflies, if you used your imagination. After you can definitely tell what they are.

Those few pics are going to be the last ones of the entire bottom half until the project is done because I had to scroll up. That’s right, I had to scroll. 😀

Here is the part the I have done today

image

It may not look like much but when looking at more of the pattern you can tell it goes with it.

I’m hoping I will have a bit more time to stitch this week so I can have some more done.

Whip those stitches everyone!!

Hump day update and happy halloween!! October 31, 2012

Happy Halloween everyone!! I hope everyone had a great day/night. It was quite an eventful one for us. Bug decided that she wanted to be Rapunzel from Tangled this year so after searching our town for a store that had the costume we finally found it at Spirit. It was the last one!! The crown that it came with broke but alas, Bug is ever so resourceful. She went into her room and dug out a crown that she had so she could wear it and be a real princess.  🙂  She got a doll for her birthday from her cousin, Thumper, that she has named Baby Rapunel and she thought that they were twins. She had to have a picture of them two together. This was after her evening out so her hair is in quite an interesting form.  😉

For Halloween, our town has an event in downtown where all the shops set up little booths so that they can pass out candy and the kids can even play games to win the candy. They had a lip syncing contest, which I had never seen before but it was interesting, and a costume contest and a pumpkin carving contest. But had a really good time and she got the hang of telling everyone trick-or-treat and getting candy. She loved that she got to play games for her candy and I’m starting to think that she is going to be a pro at making beanbags and balls into little slots or holes. Lol.

After trick-or-treating all the way down Main St. Bug started saying that her feet hurt so we headed back to the car and went to Whataburger to get something to eat. When we got home Bug told us that they didn’t put any chicken strips in her kids meal. Are you kidding me?! My princess is NOT going to eat just french fries for dinner!! I went straight back down there ready to give them a piece of my mind!! When I got there I saw how swamped they were and felt bad. I settled for a fresh kids meal and an “I’m sorry about that miss.” without any fight. All in all though it was a good night.

And now for the update!! This is what most of you are here for so here goes:

I haven’t looked back at last week’s update to see how far I’ve gotten but I feel like I’ve done a good amount of progress. I’m almost done with the lower half of the pattern and I’m looking forward to getting the top part started. Once I do the rest of the outlining on the dress and the little butterflies on the dress I’ll be done with the bottom. (I should’ve taken pictures of the details to show but I didn’t. *kicking self in the butt*)

The hardest part so far has been the lettering/symbols. I think that it’s because most of it was going through the fabric and I had to recount quite a few times because I had to make sure that it was spaced right. Plus my needle has a little bend in it because I struggled with pushing it through the fabric for the Krenik french knots so that didn’t help. I know most of you are going to say I should switch to another needle, but I’m determined to finish this project with the same needle I started it with. Then when I’m done I’ll have a fresh project and a fresh needle. I’m weird like that. Hehe.  😛

I have ordered 2 little pig cross stitch projects that I expect to receive within the next week or week and a half. I’m going to stitch those for my mom because she loves pigs. We actually had 2 pigs when I was growing up and it all started there. Now whenever we don’t know what to get her we find something with a pig and give it to her. Lol. Hopefully I’ll have time to finish the geisha and the 2 pig kits. *fingers crossed*

Until next time everyone, whip those stitches!!

I must say that after me and bug both recovering I did quite a bit of stitching. I got pretty far and broke down and ordered the other threads I needed. I started using the pink Krenik so it’s looking quite pretty.  🙂

Here is where I am with it:

I love the details that are starting to show. The picture does it no justice so I took some close ups of the details:

I’m loving the way this is coming out. I’m even getting the hang of the knots on the dress!! But this is the first time I have worked with anything other than the floss and it’s a bit tricky. Anyhoo, wish me luck with the knots!!

I realize I didn’t do my update for last week, but things were busy. Bug got sick then I got sick too. She is having to take antibiotics every 6 hours and tomorrow is her last day but it’s been rough on me because I’m sick too so having to wake up and give her her medicine is taking a toll on me. It’s okay though as long as she gets better.

Here you can tell how sick she is because she isn’t the happy smiling baby she usually is:

This is how she normally looks:

Shes getting better every day and she is almost back to her old self again.

Anywhoo….what y’all came to see, my update!! You have to use your imagination here because there is 1 picture for 2 week’s worth of updates.

Last week I only had the parts inside the border and this week is everything else.

image

I needed some extra threads that I couldn’t find so I had to order them online. Hopefully they will get here soon so I can start putting them in the design. I’ll try to keep up with my updates but it’s been a bit hectic.

On top of everything else I have finals next week so we shall see how things go. Fingers crossed!!

I’m back again for another update. Things have settled down a bit so I have had a bit more time for stitching.

Here’s my progress:

image

I’ll tell you now that it doesn’t look like I’ve done much in the middle part of the dress but it’s because the colors are light and there is some white in there too. I promise there is!!

See….

image

I was looking at the colors I’m using compared to the colors required and noticed there is a bit of color variation. It still looks good but you can (or at least I can) tell that they are different. It’s because I converted the Anchor colors to DMC. I’m hoping that in the end it looks close enough that the colors still work well together. Wish me luck!!
